R C Boreham Golf Day

On a not so lovely March morning, forty of our customers joined some of the staff at R C Boreham for our first Golf Day, held at Toot Hill Golf Club in Ongar. We met for tea, coffee and bacon rolls in the Clubhouse before braving the cold weather for 18 holes of golf.

On the 12th players had the chance to win a Polaris Diesel Ranger by getting a hole in one, with any balls landing in the water being punished by way of a fine, with all proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We would like to thank Chris Askew for being our witness on this hole and for raising a massive £205.62 from adapting the fines to include any ball not landing in the hole! Pictured below is the 12th on a nicer day!

On the 3rd and the 17th there were also chances to win prizes on a hole in one and Ray Clarke from Channels Golf Club very nearly won a set of Calloway Golf Clubs but narrowly missed out, (pictured below). He did instead win Nearest the Pin prize!

Team by team the players drifted back into the Clubhouse, handing their score cards over for Matt to tot up, this challenged his mathematic skills so, whilst he worked out the scores, everyone sat down to enjoy a 3 course meal before the prize giving and raffle.

1st Team Prize went to Olly Blackwell, Chris Collings and Josh Askew who, despite having a player less than the other teams, wiped the floor with everyone! Olly Blackwell claimed the 1st Individual Prize, so no guesses for who carried Chris and Josh to win the team prize!

2nd Team Prize went to George Chapman, Darren Coles, Richard Scantlebury and Donald McGowan, (pictured below). 2nd Individual Prize was won by Darren Coles.

3rd Team prize went to Robert Howie, James Rankin, Robin Halls and Nick Hull with 3rd Individual Prize going to Sue Halls.

Nearest the Pin:  Ray Clarke

Longest Drive:

 Women: Jenni Goddard-Smith

 Men: Sam Jaggard

Wooden Spoon:  Toby West

Special mention must go to Matt Jaggard who was keen to win the longest drive but unfortunately his effort didn’t quite match his brother’s. After a big build up, he was left disappointed as he topped the ball, driving it into the ground! Luckily someone was on hand to capture the moment, (pictured below).

We would like to thank all of our Suppliers, Vapormatic, Emak, Granit, Kramp, McCormick, Channels Golf Club and Hotline, for donating prizes for the raffle and the day. Thanks also go to SV Beauty and Lisa Jane Harvey Hairdressing, in Dunmow, for donating a couple of prizes for the ladies! £665.00 was raised from the Raffle.

We would like to thank all of the staff at Toot Hill Golf Club for their hospitality and all of our customers for their generosity on donating to such a worthy cause. The total raised from the day was £870.62 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.

We are pleased to announce that we will be making the R C Boreham Golf Day an annual event and hope that you will join us again next year.

 *  Since publishing this news article, Toby West of Butler West Electrical Services Limited, has kindly offered to sponsor the Wooden Spoon prize by bumping the total raised up to a magnificent £1,000.
